FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--German car and truck maker Daimler AG (DAI.XE) said Tuesday incoming orders indicate marked growth in the global truck market over the next few years.
MAIN FACTS:
-Daimler Trucks received orders for 420,000 vehicles between January and November, a 26% increase from a year earlier and the highest number of new orders since 2007, the company said in a press release.
-Sales were up 15% at 371,400 units in the same period.
-Developments were particularly positive in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, where Daimler Trucks received orders for 124,400 units between January and November 2011 - an 81% increase from the same period in the previous year.
-Daimler executive board member Andreas Renschler said he expects Daimler Truck's sales to increase in 2012, but the economic situation creates uncertainties for the business in Europe.
-In view of the anticipated expansion of the market, Daimler Trucks projects annual global sales to rise to more than 500,000 units by 2013, and to 700,000 trucks by the end of the decade.
-Daimler aims for an average return on sales of 8% from 2013 on, and plans to maintain this profitability level across the entire business cycle.
